Phuket zoo

Distance from our hotel 3.7 km.  ( 9 minutes drive ) 

       Phuket’s only zoo is fairly small but still provides an enjoyable day out, especially for families with younger children. It has the feel of a home zoo, which is how it began. The zoo covers an area of 10 hectares and is a fun place to see a large collection of animal and reptiles. There are more than 600 species of birds, 100 species of reptiles and amphibians, and 45 species of mammals.

The zoo is famous for its daily animal shows which feature performances by elephants, crocodiles, birds and monkeys. The zoo also features a “nocturnal house” containing hard-to-find creatures of the night, an aquarium, an orchid garden, and a butterfly garden.

Elephant Show:

       For many this is the highlight of the zoo, featuring balancing acts, football games, disco dancing and races. After the show the audience are able to have a photo taken with the elephants and feed them bananas.

Monkey Show:

       The short-tailed macaques in this show previously worked as coconut pickers. Now they perform entertaining tricks such as playing basketball and diving for coins. One part of the show has a macaque doing basic arithmetic using numbers suggested by the audience.

Crocodile Show:

       If watching people stick their heads between a large crocodile’s jaws is your idea of fun, then it doesn’t get much better than this.

Phuket Snake Farm

       This small snake farm is located near Simon Cabaret in Patong. The show is partly educational with demonstrations on what to do if you encounter a snake in the wild or get bitten by one. The rest of the show involves snake handlers charming and performing stunts with poisonous snakes. The highlight of the show is seeing the handler kiss a king cobra on its head.
